Trevor,

I have heard that same comment so many times, along with a host of others such as "good beginner's bike" and most of these have come from the following sources:

a. Bike dealer/seller going for the larger profit of the bigger/more expensive bikes.

b. Individuals under the influence of the (economic display) "bigger is better" philosophy.

c. Individuals, with the (Freudian?)"mine is bigger than yours" syndrome.

d. Owners of bigger bikes justifying their sometimes controlling and expensive big bike ownership.

e. Individuals suffering from musculo-skeletal
or sensitive butt-skin problems who actually require the softer cushiony ride of the bigger bikes.

Remember that at one time 650cc was considered a "big bike".

The shorter, lower stance of the Savage lends itself to better fit on shorter statured individuals, but there is no part of the bike that seems to be especially designed just for "girls".

I'm 6' tall. I have a 1999 Savage. I put the small factory winshield and a sheepskin seat cover on it. My longest ride so far has been about a 200 miler. The greatest discomfort I experienced was that my face hurt from excessive grinin' & smilin'.

I rest my case. Buy the bike for you, not for those others.
